Discussion/Recommendation on the below request by the Grantville Historic Preservation Commission and Grantville Cemetery Trust Board:

Several years ago, the remaining member of the Grantville Cemetery Trust Board (GCTB), Donald Olmstead, met with Ann Tucker, Marion Cieslik, the city manager, Mayor Doug Jewel, and Councilmember Hines. The group voted to give the city all the GCTB monies in its checking account. The city used a large portion of that money to build the retaining walls alongside Griffin Street to prevent graves from falling into the Street.

We would appreciate knowing the following:

How much of that money is left?
How will the money be spent?
Will any money be spent to rehab the 19 graves itemized in a proposal from Mr. Joey Fernandez of Preserving Our GA Cemeteries?
If the city does not plan to use the money to rehab the gravesites, we request that the city return the remaining funds to the Trust.

In 2003, or thereabouts, we think the city council voted to amend the cemetery ordinance to include a reference regarding the exclusion of all fences around grave lots. We are unable to find that reference in our current ordinance. Therefore, we are not sure that Cemetery Ordinance available via Municode has the most recent version. This omission needs to be researched and if this amended ordinance cannot be found in the Minutes of city council meetings, we suggest amending our ordinance to include this statement.

In reviewing audits for the past five years, Selma Coty could not find a record of the transfer of monies from the sale of cemetery lots and the four-tenths of one mill from property taxes to the cemetery trust. This transfer is a requirement in our cemetery ordinance. We would appreciate knowing why this is not being done and that this seemingly arbitrary decision be reversed.
